Vriksh, a pol house that unfolds a tree. Being close to nature, in this bustling life, isn't just what one needs? This pol house provides a tree its home to be nurtured. The tree also branches out in the chowk of Nansha Jivan ni pol of Ahmedabad old city. The house is designed favored for the Gada family. There are five members and the house tries to fulfill the needs and wants of each member. Design process. Options in adjacency diagram led the courtyard to act as the central space that connects most of the spaces in the house. Some spaces like kitchen, dining and living room were intentional given an immediate connection to each other. An anthropometry study of spaces from the program that are living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom were also measured and drawn.

Ground floor plan: The intent was to open up the living room to the courtyard with the tree and also have the kitchen and dining space experiencing the light from courtyard. The dadi’s bedroom is on the ground floor near to the otla so she could easily interact with the neighbours.

First floor plan: All the spaces that are Study area, Kabir’s and Jia’s room have a opening to the view of courtyard. Kabir’s room is also to be used as the guest room occasionally so, is provided with direct opening to the balcony combined with terrace.

Second floor plan: Many layouts were explored for the better connection of the master bedroom to the courtyard and to give it’s own shaded balcony.

Terrace plan has an optimal open to sky and semi-open space given for activities like kite flying and barbecuing. Basement is also a cozy and interactive space provided for an escape from the hot summers.

Sections: Communicate the interrelation of the floors through the double-height and the courtyard.

Elevations: Communicate the design elements onto the main road and in the pol and also displays the salvaged windows and doors.
