Recurrence | Tectonic Assemblies

The concept of tectonic assemblies is explored through three exercises. Exercise one focuses on clay, using slab building and wire cutting to create modular components. Exercise two involves creating thematic models as a pre-pavilion building exercise. The third exercise results in a full-scale pavilion based on zero-waste construction and the circular economy, utilizing reciprocal timber frames. These frames use short, straight timber elements sourced from scrapyards, with reversible connections for minimal waste. Various modules (triangular, quad, pentagon, hexagon) are designed to create a dome structure, with refined joinery details for structural integrity. These exercises hope to build an overall integration of art, design, and material.
