The Urban Management Foundation Studio (Monsoon Semester 2024) examines the pressing challenges of affordable housing for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in Ahmedabad through a comprehensive Facility Management (FM) Framework. The study integrates asset mapping, gap analysis, and actionable proposals to address critical concerns such as structural integrity, fire safety, parking management, governance, and post-occupancy maintenance. These proposals aim primarily to improve the internal management of housing societies, fostering self-reliance and better coordination among residents and stakeholders. By focusing on FM strategies, the research seeks to ensure these housing schemes are safe, sustainable, and well-maintained for long-term habitation. Key emphasis areas include strengthening fire safety compliance and optimizing parking management to enhance livability and safety.
