The Urban Management Foundation Studio (Monsoon Semester 2024) focuses on revitalizing Doshiwada ni Pol, a historic neighborhood in Ahmedabad, through a Facility Management Framework that balances heritage preservation with modern urban needs. Home to 134 households and several graded heritage structures, this UNESCO World Heritage Site represents a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, and religious units. The project examines the built fabric, occupancy, and community dynamics to propose sustainable, community-driven solutions. Key strategies include restoring heritage gates, implementing HTDR policies, establishing a community library, and organizing cultural engagement programs to strengthen social cohesion. Infrastructure improvements target fire safety systems, stormwater management, and ensuring access to safe. This project strives to create a sustainable framework for pol management that balances the conservation of cultural heritage with modern urban improvements, offering a model that can be adapted to other historic communities.
