Reclaiming Recreation - Beyond and within the 5% mandate

This pilot project aims to revitalize the underutilized 5% open space reserved in Surat’s Town Planning Schemes by developing a community-driven, modular toolkit for recreational infrastructure.  By integrating participatory design, innovative funding strategies, and multifunctional public programs, the project transforms passive land parcels into vibrant urban commons. The project targets to propose modules which can cater to three specific scenarios of greenfield development through context driven programs, brownfield development by utilizing the streets as the third space and finally proposing a module to utilize the land parcels of public infrastructure spaces. (For further reading)
