City Wide Infrastructure Planing for Udaipur, Rajasthan

As a part of second semester Urban Infrastructure studio I dealt with the Infrastructure planning aspects for the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan. Udaipur or the city of lakes nestles in a scenic valley, ringed by the green Aravali hills. It is built around three lakes – Pichola, FatehSagar, and Udai Sagar. The studio was the plethora of group and individual work and was a long journey of 18 weeks with detailed framework designed for each week. The studio framework started from the basic understanding of Infrastructural elements through the exercise of making posters of ‘My City my Infrastructure’. This played an important role to understand the wide scope of infrastructure that collectively contributes in making a city livable. Further the studio proceeded with the preliminary study of the city of Udaipur through relevant reports and documents. The studio till mid term was lined up from the baseline study of Udaipur, literature review, site visits for demand and supply data collection, meetings with stakeholders, identification of gaps by supply and demand data comparsion etc. The post mid term framework included the identification of thematic areas for intervention, detailed study of the loop holes in each sector, relevant case studies, developement of vision for the horizon up to 2035, identification of relevant city wide proposals, checking financial budget and feasibility and identification of pilot projects.
