From Market Streets to Social Spine

This project focuses on revitalising Nai Sadak, one of Jodhpur’s busiest and historically significant commercial streets. Originally built to improve connectivity between the railway station and the old walled city, Nai Sadak has evolved into a vibrant, high-footfall urban corridor. However, rapid commercialisation, traffic congestion, and infrastructural strain have compromised its functionality and public life. The project proposes context-sensitive, form-based design guidelines addressing public realm enhancement, active frontages, vending management, and participatory governance. The aim is to transform Nai Sadak into a climate-responsive, inclusive, and culturally rooted pedestrian-friendly public space while preserving its historic character.
