Everybody has a sense of belongingness on earth from where they don’t want to be detached. When this piece of land is covered with water there will be a day when people will be floating among the sky and water. Building on this imaginary and a microbiological method where pure cultures of aerobic bacteria are grown by incubating microorganisms in a liquid medium subject to continuous agitation,Submerged Culture is a speculative project that empowers people likely to be displaced by submergence to continue living where they belong. The project couples submergence and settlement in a way to live with water rather than hopelessly fight against it.
Delving on this connection to the land where they belong, this project envisions a way to retain this umbilical cord while accommodating rising water levels. It works with an easy to assemble modular mechanism that uses the foundational strength of submerged homes to create shifting platforms that accommodate assembling and disassembling modules. These assemblies are used to accommodate various activities of the village besides creating spaces for living, working, education, healthcare and recreation.
