How value of “Chawls” or “Migrant housing” is influential and significant with emphasis on time,density and culture was the main motive of the studio.Understanding what kind of housing do the migrants require through observation,interaction and analysis was carried out on site. How can design help to preserve the cultural identities of different communities?How can design connect people from different communities living in same area.How important is density for housing ? The methodology that was followed in the studio was firstly understanding mass housing built from various famous architects,documenting and analysing site ,i.e, “Mann Darwaja, Surat”,creating mock mass housing design iterations to understand migrants need for housing.Finally making a design iteration including all inferences of the site.
