Verdant Chronicles: Reflecting Surat’s Intangible Ties

The project reimagines the 6-kilometer river edge along the Tapi River in Surat, Gujarat. This urban design project weaves together ecological sensitivity, community engagement, and cultural heritage. By incorporating native plant species, restoring habitats, and creating inclusive public spaces, the design strengthens the intangible ties between the city's inhabitants and the river. This verdant corridor revitalizes Surat's riverfront, fostering a harmonious relationship between nature and urbanity.

Landing / Abstraction - The site, Tapi River in Surat, was introduced to us through an exercise requiring us to depict our first impressions in a representational style.

Grounding - An exercise where our group collaboratively documented the site.

There are multiple intangible experiences that one has while moving across the entire patch of 18km These are executed through tangible elements. The finding is about identifying the intangible experiences and the tangible elements that make them happen. In finding, I have marked these associations on the whole 18km, where I have identified the zones that have the maximum associations and zoomed in on this area. In founding, I developed the design around these intangible associations and validated it through a design response as to how one can incorporate the existing associations/intangible experiences while bringing a completely new project.

This are the design Strategies in 1:2500 scale where the first plan shows an iteration of proposed land use map, and other two map are the iteration of design programs.
