GRIDSCAPE

Gridscape is a project that focuses on the stacking of a single unit with respect to its function. Happy Street is a linear stretch that currently has few food trucks; therefore, to bring back the zest and vibrancy, the idea of having modular elements would work well and facilitate more functions in a smaller site. This project follows a similar ideology to the Reversible Mnifesto Market in the Andel District. This design incorporates not only kiosks and temporary food carts but also restaurants with shaded seating. Overall, the idea is to pedestrianize the street while keeping in mind the different age groups.

Carter Road plan, section, and element detail. This helped in understanding how a small linear space can be utilized for different functions. The position , type and height of the seating helped understand the character and requirements in a public space.

One Green Mile plan, section, and element detail. This site helped in realising the differenent user groups that use a public space as well as the different types of ownership of a space.

Crawford Market plan, section, element detail, and activity sketch. This site helped analyze different types of shops and the space occupied by each vendor or hawker. The different layers of a street were made visible even when streets were jam-packed with people. Hence, lane segregation is an essential tool to remember while designing a public space.

Reversible Manifesto Market (Andel District)The market’s scaffolding, painted a vibrant aqua blue, serves as structural framing while also supporting tube lighting, signage, and speakers. This aspect is just as important to the market’s visual identity, producing an enclosure that effectively confines the space while still feeling accessible to the surrounding community.
