Sacred Scapes

Ambe Mata Mandir is located at one of the major axes of Gomtipur gaam. The place around the temple serves as a flexible space throughout the day and across seasons. Despite the presence of such an important religious anchor within the neighborhood, the place lacks the vibe of a religious center, with no provision of infrastructure for the temple and related activities. Additionally, the architecture of the temple seems to be carved out from that of a house, hence affecting its prominence. The space in front is used as a parking space almost throughout the day, resulting in a lack of space for people to gather to interact, recite bhajans, and celebrate occasions. The project thus addresses these aspects to revive the prominence of the temple and its associated activities.
