Parking and Junction Improvemnts - Rajkot

The report is a Strategic Transport of Rajkot for the year 2041 prepared to cope up with future mobility issues. The long-term strategies used are green mobility, seamless connectivity, reliability, and safety. The issues in Rajkot are low mode share for public transport and non-motorized transport, poor NMT infrastructure, low reliability, and poor connectivity. The population growth of Rajkot is very high with this the private vehicle ownership is also high. The private vehicle growth is 1.2% each year. Currently, Rajkot is a 2-Wheeler city with maximum mode share and vehicle ownership of 2 Wheelers. The people travel shorter distances and prefer traveling by 2-Wheeler, so the average travel distance is 4.8km only. In 2041, the new industrial and commercial sector will be coming toward the northeast side, making Rajkot an upcoming industrial and commercial hub in the future. So, the growth toward Kuwadva, Racecourse, Shahpar, Metoda, and Aji dam is very high, in future, the trips toward this zone will be very high becoming the new attractions. The congestion level in the city will reduce by 2041 but if public transport mode share is not increased with E- vehicle introduction the GHG emission from this city will grow by 6.5%. To reduce this congestion on major corridors junctions at Gondhal and Punit are improving. These junctions are very critical one as Rajkotians daily use this junction to go to their workplaces. The major issues on these junctions are these are not signalized and because of the high flow of freight vehicles it makes the pedestrian movement unsafe. The geometrical design and providing foot over bridges for safe pedestrian movement and making the junction signalized are the interventions on these junctions. The parking provided in Rajkot is on-demand bases but in coming future the availability of free spaces will be very low causing parking issues. So, this issue is solved by reducing the load on the available parking lots, and private vehicle usage and prioritizing the usage of public transport. Area level parking interventions at Dhebar Chowk and Aji Industrial Estate are taken as parking issues were hindering the free traffic flows. The implementation work for these projects is divided into different phases and the budget required for this project is explained.
