Ambli Esplanade

This project aims to create a unique identity for the commercial activity in the gaam in an attempt to reignite the shopkeeper’s association with the gaam. The project follows a specific phasing system with the first phase being the vitalisation of the facade on the outer edge of the gaam and the shops situated there. The first step is the agglomeration of shops so that shops such as convenience stores, barber shops etc are situated along the entryways of the gaam. Similarly, fabrication, furniture and garage shops are to be relocated so that they can have greater setback to use as a workshop or display space. The next step is the formation of a set of guidelines to achieve a uniform character. Subsequently, according to these guidelines, construction of an arcade, construction of sidewalks and seating spaces and implementation and construction of a park and ride system is to be done. The next phase includes identifying and attempting to vitalise other existing commercial spaces in the gaam based on the specific situations and conditions they present. This is to be followed by some temporary and periodical commercialization wihtin the gaam to involve the residents to an even greater extent.
