The old city life was about celebrating community living. The built-form created an engaging envelope around neighborhood open spaces and streets. These spaces became crowded over time. Planning of our new cities has improved the streetscape and provided a more organized built-form. But, the open spaces are mostly divided into smaller pieces of land which have become islands of greens in the city. Character is lost due to the lack of integration of these open spaces with the built environment. However, the growing trend of townships in our cities has allowed us to rethink the integration of public open space systems.
