Motera_Story of an Urban Growth

Cities are diverse and complex habitats. Cities are spaces with divergent ideas, diverse lifestyles, organized chaos and contestations over space and resources. “Understanding the City studio” focused on an evidence- based approach for understanding and analysing the various real-time urban issues through different layers of city. Overall, the studio helped me in developing broad level understanding of city layers by studying a precinct of 1 sqkm area. The precinct is located in Motera is 11.5km and 14km from Ahme abad and Gandhinagar respectively. Major roads are state highway SH-41 and SH-71. This portfolio is a compilation of exercises conducted to understand the city. It showcases the Story of an Urban Growth_Motera. The whole story has been scripted into 3 parts. Driving Forces This section aims to find out the driving forces for urban growth that has resulted to significant change in the precinct. Urban Morphology The main intent of this section is to explore about the current pattern of progress in the precinct. However, in order to address this objective, the study is based on “what is the current pattern and analysis of progress that has resulted in the growth?” Out-Turns Urban growth as an intricate phenomenon has socioeconomic and physical out-turns, both negative and positive. This section aims to find out the effects of urban growth in terms of economy, physical and social aspects.
