Vasna like other sub districts of Ahmedabad was developed as a response to the migratory bustling population towards the western end of the city. The political influencers of the era of the 80’s envisioned the western settlement along the river to envisage as the epitome of the ideal living conditions of a city. The marketing strategy worked wonders as more and more population was now migrating towards the other edge. One of the earliest inhabitants of the area were the zamindars and the mill owners. They bought land in parcels and established one of the first cooperative societies with the aim of reserving the land for their own community. This was a result of a strong community force and a huge disposable income at hand. Amongst these wealthier classes was mostly a concentration of Jains and Hindus. Thus religious and communal identity became a governing force in any neighbourhood. Areas came to be known by the dominant communal identity of the residents.
