Evolution of A Suburban Neighborhood

The portfolio provides an overview of the detailed survey and research conducted to understand the evolution of one square kilometer precinct at the level of Kolkata Municipal corporation. It covers a wide range of elements like street network, land use patterns, building typology, public realm, infrastructure, job market. The study analyses the spatial transformation of the precinct through satellite imagery and interviews with local residents to understand how it developed over the two decades from a low density residential area to a high density one. The land use pattern and building typologies of the precinct are explored to understand how the use of land changes from residential to mixed use to provide job opportunities for the informal sectors and how the densely compacted residential buildings impact the socio-cultural aspects of the precinct.
