Mixed Use Neighbourhoods

A city can be defined as layers of tangible and intangible aspects. It comprises the layers of urban structure that binds the city and its people. The portfolio analyses the understanding of a city through a detailed study of an urban precinct- Osmanpura, Aurangabad through the lens of a mixed-use neighborhood. The portfolio is divided into four parts to maintain the flow of the narrative. The first part aims to understand the identity of the precinct. The second part studies the precinct as a marketplace of land, housing, and job opportunities. The third part looks at the interconnection between the precinct and the people by analyzing their choices, trade-offs, and quality of life. The last part affirms cities as a network of streets and infrastructural services. The precincts in Madan Mahal, Jabalpur, University Road, Rajkot and Sahakarnagar, Pune are compared with the Osmanpura precinct to understand the behavior of mixed-use neighborhoods.
