The portfolio is a small-scale urban analysis where historic evolution and present context in relation to various policies and interventions and its interrelation are the key study aspects for the extends of Memnagar. Starting from the changing government policies as the driving factors which also witnessed large amounts of failure and opposition in terms of implementation is the starting point for the report. Here Memnagar is brought into light with relation to the urban void that has now been created in place of the earlier proposed green area as a beneficial addition to the urban expansion of Ahmedabad. Due to the evident constraint in the form of undevelopable land present on site, Memnagar evolved in its own terms in the form of divided residential neighborhoods with major commercial activities in close proximity to the major spine of Sola Road. The study further analyzed the built typologies consisting of row houses, apartments and housing societies with a major portion lying under GHB (Gujarat Housing Board) hence supporting the growing demand of public housing in the city. Any part of the city never develops in isolation and has interlinkages with the rest of the urban growth in the form of a street network. Memnagar’s distinct character as a predominant residential zone in an agglomeration with high density transit-oriented zone is the result of the expansion of Sola Road and incorporation of the BRTS corridor in the area.
