Tracing the Strings of a Heterogeneous Fringe : Motera

Ahmedabad’s expansion initiated with the setting up of the first textile mill in the 1820s but eventually it started growing along the transport nodes to reach the fringes. Motera is one such neighbourhood in Ahmedabad that reflects development reaching the fringes due to both the factors. The peculiar chronology of planning interventions with market trends resulted in Motera becoming highly heterogeneous in economy and morphology. Presently, Motera houses all income groups as well as land uses adjacent to each other along the TOD zone. The study aims to trace the factors that led to the heterogeneous Motera of today.
