Surat's Compact Evolution: Redefining Urban Excellence

The studio concentrates on comprehending the framework and mechanism of a Development Plan (DP) by examining the urban area of Surat. The proposed Development Plan 204 envisions Surat as a compact and resilient city. The study is conducted through studio exercises and a series of three iterations. An analysis of the existing situation (ESA) is carried out through primary and secondary research across various sectors, including transport, land use, infrastructure, economy, housing, and demography. Based on the ESA, a zoning map and development control regulations (DCR) are formulated. Proposals for sectors such as transport, green networks, and housing are also prepared. Additionally, the phasing and costing of the DP are undertaken. Furthermore, recommendations are provided for enhancing the implementation mechanism of the DP through Town Planning (TP) schemes.
