Saraspur: Transforming an Urban Neighbourhood

Saraspur, a historic Neighborhood in Ahmedabad. Established during the 15th century by Sultan Ahmed Shah. It has been a key contributor to the city's cultural and economic development. Under British rule, Saraspur evolved into an industrial hub, providing housing for textile mill workers in its chawls. Following the decline of the textile industry after independence, the area faced economic hardships and saw the emergence of informal settlements. Today, Saraspur remains a densely populated residential locality, blending diverse housing types with vibrant markets and rich cultural traditions, which embodying Ahmedabad's enduring heritage and adaptability amid urban challenges.
