Sacred life of streets: The unbuilt fabric of Chandlodia

Located 5 km west of the Sabarmati River, Chandlodia is a residential precinct witnessing urban growth near its surrounding areas of New Ranip and Sola. Efforts to transform its urban fabric through TOD policy and TOZ have been limited by market forces, keeping the area an affordable housing market. Dense neighborhoods occupy nearly all available land, with minimal public open spaces, fostering a strong connection between the built form and the public realm. This study explores the interplay between the built and unbuilt, focusing mainly on the tangible and intangible layers that uncover the sacredness of Chandlodia's streets.
