Conservation & Transformation - A Synergy

The Urban Expansion and Regeneration Studio introduced Town Planning Schemes and Local Area Planning, greenfield and brownfield development respectively. The studio began with a case study and progressed to various TPs and LAPs of different urban characters.
This portfolio covers the Local Area Plan prepared for Sankdi Sheri area. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the core city of Ahmedabad, the area around Sankdi Sheri has key economic clusters as well as dense residential settlements. The site is struggling to accommodate the contemporary lifestyles of its citizens in an area planned centuries ago. Caught between the competing demands of conservation and transformation, the site demanded a balance that could be struck between both and elevate the residents’ quality of life.
