Formal Substandard housing units have a legal land ownership but the houses are generally old, dilapidated or congested.There is a need to address this sector in Rajkot city as there are 21% of households living in substandard housing, of which 9% are the formal substandard. these households own the land but, are unable to upgrade their houses due to reasons such as lack of financial assistance, small plot sizes and stringent building regulations.
