Enhancing river-city connections

The project vision and strategies section defines the core vision and phased strategy for recalibrating river edge density, open space networks, water-based economy, and heritage restoration. It leads into the Heritage Riverfront Local Area Plan, a guide for implementation and regulation, supported by a robust set of Urban Design Guidelines that address building typologies, open space regulations, and community benefits like affordable housing and heritage preservation. Project demonstration illustrates phased development through detailed spatial interventions from Hope Bridge to Inner Ring Road. The implementation plan elaborates on institutional frameworks including River Cities Alliance, URMP guidelines, and a 4-phase development model led by key stakeholders like SUDA and TRFDCL, with funding support from the World Bank. Finally, the impact of proposal is assessed across four lenses - heritage, economic, social, and ecological, demonstrating a holistic approach to sustainable urban transformation along the Tapi River in Surat.
