The study is sought to understand the role of urban villages in a city. It involves understanding the case of urban villages around the world and their transformation through large or smaller interventions. Urban villages play an important role in the city but have not seen much development compared to the surrounding developing city. 
The peri-urban villages in Ahmedabad are considered to be the first stop for migrants entering the city. Motera gam being a peri-urban village has comparatively higher rental housing stock and upcoming sports enclave in its close proximity. These act as two villages located in the peri-urban areas are considered to be the first stop for the migrants entering the city.
