This project envisions the transformation of Ahmedabad’s urban villages (Gamtals) into vibrant, inclusive, and connected neighborhoods by integrating them with surrounding institutional lands. Despite their central locations, these villages remain disconnected from the city’s formal urban fabric. The proposal focuses on activating underutilized institutional edges, enhancing public spaces, and introducing affordable, mixed-use developments. By strengthening the symbiotic relationship between gamtals and institutions, the project aims to create shared infrastructure, improve accessibility, and enhance livelihoods. Inspired by successful models like Nantou, this strategy offers a scalable framework for revitalizing similar urban villages across the city through community-driven, adaptive urban design.
