From Sheet to Shelter: The Art of Curved Folding

My studio work focused on curved creased folding in architecture, progressing through five phases. We began by studying case works, including Glenn Wilcox and Wes McGee’s foldout couch structure and Bentley & Kyungen Ko’s “Tailor Made.” Next, we explored the technique through paper models, later digitized in 3D. These forms underwent structural, daylight, shadow, and wind analyses to assess habitability. Refinements were made across wearable, furniture, and building scales. The final phase culminated in a full-scale installation using MS sheet, synthesizing our research into a structurally and environmentally responsive form.
