IMPACT OF WATER-LOGGING ON URBAN MOBILITY IN AHMEDABAD

Urban mobility, a fundamental component of urban systems and is sensitive to shocks with significant impacts on the daily life of individuals and businesses. This research started with analyzing the present road and public transportation conditions, followed by locating vulnerable areas. Urban water-logging refers to the phenomenon of a rainstorm or short-time heavy rain, which surpasses the capacity of urban drainage systems. This causes a significant drop in traffic speed and volume as well as damages the mobility infrastructure. After studying and analyzing water-logging complaints received by Ahemdabad Municipal corporation, roads, and public transport infrastructure data, vulnerable areas within Ahmedabad are identified. Further, it is recommended that any resilient solution should be implemented on the basis of the intensity of impacted areas.
