The Passive Comfort Lab focuses on optimizing building envelopes for energy efficiency and thermal comfort, grounded in concepts such as heat and mass transfer, solar geometry, psychrometry, and climate analysis. The course project enhances understanding of various passive design strategies and the thermal performance of building envelopes through hands-on experimentation. Further we learn to correlate environmental parameters with building elements by measuring and analyzing data using various instruments. The simulation module emphasizes climate-based envelope optimization, assessing its impact on cooling loads and thermal comfort. Simulations evaluate the performance of different energy conservation strategies, fostering a comprehensive understanding of these approaches.
