The Passive Comfort Lab focuses on understanding heat transfer and building physics, starting with basic concepts and progressing to hands-on experiments and exercises. The course emphasizes building envelope design through a course project that involves constructing a 1 cubic meter prototype to evaluate its thermal performance. Topics covered include heat transfer, climate analysis, solar geometry, psychrometry, and passive strategies etc. The simulation module aids in analyzing heat interactions and cooling loads, while the hot and cold enclosure provides practical experience in optimizing building envelope design. The lab integrates theory and practice, exploring the impact of parameters like U-value, SRI, and SHGC on energy performance.
