Chandlodiya-Water supply system and lake Development

Study of various infrastructural services provided by the urban local body to its citizen began with the selection of ward. The ward Chandlodiya is selected based on population growth rate and quality of water supply system and sewerage network/system.Literature review, formal and informal interviews and site visits oriented the working methodology of this project. My scope of work was limited to the analysis of the existing water supply system using water gems software and preparing a lake development plan along with its costing.

The analysis of the existing water supply system is carried out in Water Gems software. The aim is to identify low pressures, especially negative pressures in the system.Water gems includes LoadBuilder and TRex tool which enables us to allocate water demands and junction elevations based on contour data.

Analysis of network for peak demand

Analysis of network for base demand

This indicates that the network is sufficient to cater to the demand of present as well as future population.

These are the two artificial lakes constructed by AUDA. Both the lakes constitute about 0.4% of the total land use.

Steps to be taken to restore lakes.

Pictorial representation of the interlinking of 8 lakes of New-West zone by AUDA to avoid water logging and treat them as storage unit. This project did not consider the irreversible impact like quality of run-off discharged into the lake. The present conditions of the lake shows neglect. Indiscriminate dumping of waste and inflow of sewage are some of the problems.

The perimeter sand filter is an underground vault consisting of two chambers which perform different level of treatment. The concept of aeration of lake water using fountains can also be implemented.

List of proposals.

Proposed development plan for Chandlodiya lake with an approximate cost of 2crores.
