MONUMENTS, MEMORY AND RUINS

Museum of Everyday Life

The city is a reflection of the everyday lives of its people. The new city museum would display a collection of moments - It would be a place where people aspire to understand themselves and the city better. A place where people see a reflection of themselves - ordinary at first glance, part of something miraculous on the second, and third, and every repeated viewing after that.
The museum divides itself into two parts - the main museum wing, and a separate but closely connected children's museum and community section. The two are held together by a large open courtyard, situated almost in the centre of the entire site. The open court beckons one out from the strict orthogonal shapes of the main museum block, and towards the playful and animated clusters of the children's and community galleries.
