Spatial optimization of roof’s SRI for UHI mitigation

Ahmedabad implemented a Heat Action Plan with cool roofs after a deadly heatwave. This study explored how cool roofs affect the Urban Heat Island (UHI) in different city areas. Using simulations, researchers found cool roofs could significantly lower temperatures, especially in densely built areas. The coolest scenario saw a 4.24°C drop! Cool roofs also indirectly reduced energy use for cooling by up to 19%. This shows cool roofs can be a powerful tool for cooler cities and lower energy use.
