Agriculture accounts for 70% of total water demand, while only 8% goes to industries. On the contrary Non-agricultural water demand is increasing at a rate of 1.4% per year due to population growth and industrial development, putting cities in danger. Cities are in danger due to the persistent rise in concentrated water demand. Thus, most Indian cities are forced to obtain water from hundreds of kilometers away, and available treated wastewater is not widely reused, adversely contributing to water pollution.
