Inclusive Transit Stations: Safe or Unsafe?

To be relevant in the future, stations must consider both the function that they perform and the people they serve. Currently, transit stations in Indian cities serve as rigid infrastructure assets. They simply serve as the entry and exit points of an individual transit point. They should be more adaptable and act as a mobility hub, connecting various modes of transportation. They must transform into flexible and inclusive transportation networks, as well as grassroots engagement and pride-building destinations. The declared essential duty of stations is to move 'people safely and efficiently, yet the challenges in fulfilling this responsibility for all users are visible. The study aims to assess different transit stations to gather data and evidence that will allow the stations to be classified as child-friendly for young children, teenagers, and caregivers. To better understand how the environment affects these users, the study will map the accessibility and usability of transport stops for children and caregivers.
