Exchange Studio

The Horizon at Dietikon, Switzerland

In architecture, “Cadavre Exquis” or “Exquisite Corpse” is a collaborative method where designers sequentially contribute to a project without seeing previous inputs, leading to innovative results. The Urban Landscape Master Studio challenges students with urban planning tasks, creating scenarios from broad concepts to detailed designs. This studio uses bottom-up planning, focusing on community-driven actions and informal urbanism, emphasizing spontaneous development without formal ownership. Students address urban issues at various scales, applying bottom-up techniques in real-world contexts. By semester’s end, they develop scenarios, demonstrate bottom-up planning proficiency, and create effective strategy representations, fostering innovative, community-driven urban planning skills.
