INTERLOCKING ASSEMBLIES: Exploration using Pentagon

‘Interlocking Assemblies’ is part of DesignAware’s ongoing design study in interlocking systems and assembly techniques employing various materials and applications, which began in 2014 and focused on furniture, spatial design, interior design, and interior architecture. The study looks at how diverse shapes and morphologies evolve from the same basic unit, resulting in varied geometries and functions. Organizational forms are created to be independent of context or kind, and the end product is both highly adaptable and specialized. This research is a bottom-up approach that doesn’t begin with a preconceived result but arrives at the result through experimentation. It is open-ended, ongoing design research with no set end; it will continue beyond the research project.
