An Introduction to Critical Approaches in Architecture

This project is a theoretical analysis, looking at the normative practices of Mumbai International Airport - Terminal 2. The chosen lens of theoretical analysis is the feminist lens of dis/ability. The framework of analysis applied is taken from the essay “Invisibility Work?: How Starting From Dis/Ability Challenges Normative Social, Spatial and Material Practices” written by Jos Boys. Jos Boys is an architect, educator, activist and writer. Boys’ work is placed in feminist theory and the specific areas she focuses on are architecture and identity in relation to disability, gender and education. She problematises the social construction of ‘normal’ architecture and attempts to understand how marginalised groups perceive spatiality.
