This studio project explores the use of Aluminium in Viennese modernism (1880–1930) through material-based research and design.
The first phase investigates a selected building to trace aluminium’s origins in Vienna, identify its producers, and examine how it shaped architectural aesthetics.
Building on this, the second phase develops an installation that highlights the scale of aluminium used in the building in terms of contemporary products. The project aims to initiate a dialogue around secondary energy consumption and proposes a strategy for reusing and rethinking existing materials in architecture. It serves as a urban mine, available for all to interact with and use.
