Situating care through memory and place: Bidar

This DRP aims to develop an understanding of the relationship between memory, artefact, people and the built environment, particularly at sites that have experienced violence and trauma and the importance of place-based research as an overall method within the Indian context. The project focusses on the specific location of Bidar district in Karnataka, which was one of the many regions that were affected by events preceding, during and after the Police Action of 1948.  It engages with people’s memories and experiences (oral) and tracing their anchors in buildings and locations (architectural and spatial) vis-à-vis memory and care within the broader time period from 1940 to 1972.
