“I believe that the distribution of human occupation on a landscape gives a lot of information about how people use the landscape, patterns of settlement, economic development, and cultural-social activities of the human groups. Distribution over several thousand years can lead to an evolutionary understanding of the people and their cultural patterns and topography and physical landscape development.” (Silbernagel et al. (1997)) In shaping the landscapes of different places, topography plays a crucial role. It’s about exposing and enhancing the hidden qualities of sights and surroundings to integrate them seamlessly into a broader spatial scheme. The natural contours of the land, including its Slopes and Valleys, greatly influence the characteristics of different settlements. In simpler terms, how the land is shaped impacts how communities are organized and built. This DRP aims to examine the settlement patterns from the contextual lens of Topography, and how the landscape influences the livelihoods and settlements of the community.
