Aligning Chennai Climate Action Plan with Master Plan

Urban areas cover a small fraction of the Earth's total land area - less than 3 per cent - yet account for a disproportionately large share (70 per cent) of the planet's human-caused greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change. The energy sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in cities, while sectors such as transportation, industry, and waste management also play crucial roles. The research aims to incorporate adaptation and mitigation strategies within the energy sector of the Third Masterplan of Chennai by identifying synergies between the climate action plan and the master plan.
