Earthwork cost contributes a significant amount to the total cost. The earthwork can be further divided in to cut volume and fill volume. Road transport network assignment in a region includes design of pavement for drainage and traffic. After the design of alignment of the network drainage is the major concern as it decides the age and efficiency of the road indirectly. Usually many alternatives are possible for designing the same road network and multiple iterations may be done in order to optimize the network problem.
