Aligned with LLNaF (Living Labs Network and forum), I pursued place-based research on occupation-based communities and their housing in Bidar, Karnataka. The lack of many communities in historical studies has made their customs, lifestyle, culture, and craft invisible in modern society. The ordinary history of occupation-based communities will sensitise locals, inform researchers and policymakers, and drive development. By archiving architectural artefacts, this study tries to understand this micro context - people, practice, and historicity - and how these aspects manifest in and impact communal spaces. The study uses ethnography, observation, and architectural analysis to explore archiving as a critical thinking tool.
