Founded in 1955 by five budding architects – Hans Hostettler, Erwin Fritz, Samuel Gerber, Rolf Hesterberg and Alfredo Pini, four of whom worked under Hans Brechbuhler, who himself worked under Le Corbusier in the 1930s. It’s no wonder that Atelier 5 has based their architectural practice based on the principles of Le Corbusier. Hans Hostettler, Rolf Hesterberg and Erwin Fritz completed their education from Technikum Burgdorf, shortly after which they went to work under Andre Sive, and then later under Hans Brechbuhler. Meanwhile, Alfredo Pini and Samuel Gerber went to the Technical Centre in Biel, after which Samuel Gerber went to work under Robert Burle Marx in Brazil. Alfredo Pini applied for work under Le Corbusier, but due to no vacancy, he was recommended by them to work under Hans Brechbuhler. Then in 1955, Samuel Gerber returned from Brazil, and all five of them came together to create Atelier 5.
