A Reflection on model-making

The Role and Enduring Relevance of Making Models in the Architectural Practice in India
“The model establishes a connection between thoughts, ideas, and sketches; simultaneously identifying anchor points around which the whole project could make a beginning for development. I would consider this an important stage in the design process.” (Raje, 2012). Inquiries made through the design process would lead to questions that would offer new dimensions to the physical model-making practice, prompting one to question the fundamental motivations behind making models. Why does one make them at all? How do they contribute to the reflective process? Can it become an iterative process in itself, aiding the maker in reasoning with their thoughts? By scrutinizing the attitude toward model-making in contemporary architectural practice, the research aimed to unravel this practice’s evolution and enduring relevance.
