Newman Hall, designed by Hasmukh C. Patel and built in Ahmedabad from 1965-68, is one of India's finest modern buildings. Through discussions, detailed drawings, mind maps and essays, the expression, construction methods and subtle nuances of the building were analyzed and understood. Individual architectural elements were scrutinized to determine their relationship to the overall building function and character. These exercises gave us an in-depth understanding of the tangible and intangible aspects of Newman Hall.
